Resident Development

The department’s top priority is educating the otolaryngology physicians of tomorrow. Donations to the Otolaryngology Resident Unrestricted Fund support every aspect of resident education and development.

On the five-year horizon, we intend to create a state-of-the-art simulation lab facility for training otolaryngology residents and students in procedural skills. Equipment exists for teaching temporal bone anatomy and surgery as well as sinus anatomy; the department seeks to finish equipping the simulation lab with sinus surgery, tympanostomy tube placement, epistaxis management, foreign body extraction, and peritonsillar abscess management equipment. This equipment will be used for ongoing resident and student training along with annual external activities inviting trainees and clinicians from the region to build surgical skills.

Additionally, the department seeks to sustain and enhance our lectureship series which brings in outstanding national and international lecturers to promote learning and exchange within the state and the department. Otolaryngologists from throughout the state and nation attend these lectures; and annual funds from the endowment would be used to augment them.

Donating to this account helps expand other resident educational pursuits including:

  • Funding an annual ultrasound course
  • Enhancing resident educational materials
  • Grants allowing residents to rotate at other institutions, including international experiences
